Keep the Dog Hair Off the Sleeper Sofa if You Want to Sell Your House

While people who are trying to sell their homes often go to great extents to make their house look its best, sometimes they forget the things that are truly most important. Of course it is to be commended when a home seller goes the extra mile to identify things they can do to boost the appearance, or image of their property, but they still need to stick to the basics. You can’t spray down the sleeper sofas with an aromatic blend of Freesia and Rose linen spray, but forget to place filthy shoes out of view. It is a matter of adding things to the mandatory list, not skipping the mandatory and doing only the extras.

Recently, I saw this in full force at an open house, and to say that I cringed with embarrassment for them would be a definite understatement. The homeowners had infused the house with the fragrance of fresh baked cookies, left a plate of those cookies on the kitchen counter, placed vases of flowers in each room, and even had candy dishes filled to the brim in the entryway. All very nice touches to be sure. However, they had left dog hair all over the sofas, pillows, throw blankets and rugs. Geez people, haven’t you ever heard of a lint roller, or those vacuum attachments that allow you to suck up all those stray hairs right off your dog?

It is contraindicated to leave unsavory things like dog hairs all around, and then think anyone will be interested in staying for long, much less want to eat your uncovered cookies. I don’t care how good that house might smell at the time of the open house, nobody will be fooled. It will be obvious that you have just covered the scent of dog, and it will rise again. Oh, I could go on about this for pages, but I won’t as I think you get the picture. If you are putting your house on the market it must be spic and span, and everything else follows.
